Alumni Update: News from Our Portfolio

With 57 companies in our portfolio, it can be hard to keep up with all the news. Here's an update on a few Betaspring companies who are moving forward fast.

Autobike, TouchVu and WorldBrain Features in Boston Sunday Globe
Congrats to three of our alum for getting special notice from reporter Scott Kirsner, who included the three in a weekend column focused on the top 10 companies coming out of the Fall season's accelerators. 

Rootless Features on CBS National News received a well-deserved shout-put from CBS National News this week for their work using the Rootless ridesharing platform to help those affected by Super Storm Sandy.

Less than 10 hours after crushing it at Betaspring's Fall Launch Day, AutoBike landed in Michigan to take home 1st prize and a $10K check in the UMICH startup event.

Huge congrats to TranslateAbroad, who were among the newest companies to be selected to receive funding from Dave McClure's 500 Startups.

121Nexus in Ohio for Obama Campaign
121 Nexus was on the ground in Ohio this fall, as team Obama tested 121's uniqiue voter engagement tool. And we know how that turned out!

Bringing the Pros to Your Kitchen
Alum Zokos has launched Zokits. Zokits are events planned by industry experts, food bloggers and world-class chefs. They include ingredient lists and suggestions to create a memorable get-together. Word on the street is that in NYC, you can order a fully stocked pig roast, and a farmer to do the dirty work of roasting!

Big Launch Press
Thryve landed killer ink in Lifehacker acquired more than 3,000 users in their first week who logged 5,000 meals in the same timespan. Hot damn.

On the EDTech Scene
Spring alums RecoVend were selected as one of 14 companies to present at the EdGrowth Summit  

New Client, New Look
Care Thread signed its first partnership with Yankee Alliance, a hospital group purchasing organization, as the preferred vendor of secure mobile messaging and collaboration solutions to its 100 member hospitals. Care Thread also launched its new branding, website, and blog at the Health 2.0 conference in early October.

Rate the Debate Crushes it with User Engagement
Thumbs Up released Rate the Debate this fall, a real-time interaction tool for rating moments within the presidential debates.  They saw 1,000x more engagement per user than Twitter for the debates and landed some sweet coverage in the Boston Globe.  

Nest4Less Expansion
Nest4Less has just partnered with the Massachusetts Association of Realtors and Rhode Island Association of Realtors to offer home related discounts to home buyers and home owners and a social marketing tool for their Realtor members.

Jerry Goes to China
Sproutel just returned from China as they gear up for production of their first product, Jerry the Bear.  

Acustom Suits on Celebrity Apprentice
I guess winning a coveted spot in NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Project Pop-Up NYC wasn't enough. So, Acustom went and got actor and celebrity reality TV wunderkind Stephen Baldwin to wear their custom suits on the upcoming season of Celebrity Apprentice.
