MakeHIW: The Beginning of a Revolution
I'd like to thank Dale Dougherty and Tim O'Reilly for organizing the Make Hardware Innovation Workshop. The Workshop, auspiciously located at Xerox PARC, gathered together the alpha geeks of the Maker movement - founders of Adafruit, Inventables, ShopBot, MakerBot, Sugru, and others - as well as investors, entrepreneurs, and engineering veterans.
Speakers such as Carl Bass, CEO of AutoDesk, spoke about the future of making and manufacturing, and shared their insights into the future of the Maker movement.
The Maker movement is evolving, and 2012 marks an inflection point where the movement transforms into a personal fabrication revolution. This revolution will have an even greater impact than the industrial revolution of the 1800s and the personal computer revolution of the 1970s.
Good News for Betaspring. We've been accelerating physical technology startups for four years, and we're excited that the personal fabrication revolution has arrived. This revolution should lead to faster product development, lower startup costs and new sources of financing for phystech ventures; all of which make accelerating a phystech startup in twelve weeks even more viable than it is today.
Watch for exciting announcements this year as we further evolve our program to be even better for phystech startups.
